Planning your journey to Bathurst

If you’re planning a trip to Bathurst or the Central West, you can continue to visit the region via the signed alternative routes.

The NSW Government has announced the appointment of Seymour Whyte to deliver a new crossing at Mitchells Causeway following the closure of the Great Western Highway at Victoria Pass. Major construction is expected to commence in July 2026, with the highway anticipated to reopen during the second quarter of 2027.

The new crossing will be constructed above the existing Mitchells Causeway and supported by deep foundations anchored into stable bedrock, providing a safer and more resilient connection between the Blue Mountains and the Central West.
