Whether you’re an active or passive outdoor adventurer, there is so much to see, do and explore in the great outdoors in the Bathurst region. Here's a selection of some of the offerings to keep you occupied.
Mount Panorama-Wahluu is an Australian icon not to be missed when visiting Bathurst. Bet you didn’t know that there’s more than one way to take a hot lap around this famous road though. Do as many locals do and trade in your wheels for your legs and use man power to get you down Conrod Straight. Don’t fancy breaking a sweat? Then the only lap you need to take is one of Mount Panorama Estate’s cellar door. That’s right, there’s a winery right on the mountain. Or pack a picnic and stop at McPhillamy Park on the summit - it's an incredible spot for a selfie.
Hike, Run & Camp
A huge and crystal lined system of caves and once a favourite hang out for local gold-miners only an hour’s drive from Bathurst, Abercrombie Caves makes a great day trip to escape to nature and discover beautiful waterfalls, bushwalking and hiking trails. A purpose-built stage sits among the limestone arches where you can catch an underground concert on special occasions throughout the year.
Wallaby Rocks is a half hour drive from Bathurst in the Turon National Park. A top spot for swimming and fishing, mountain bikers can also enjoy the 8km trail. Locals suggest packing a picnic lunch, a good book and some of the local wine to indulge in on a sunny afternoon. You can also set up camp and spend a night under the stars.
Grab your binoculars and head to Boundary Road Reserve, just five minutes from the Bathurst CBD, to spot some rare Australian bird-life in this 85-hectare woodland. You’ll also find kangaroos snoozing in the sun and can catch a glimpse of the iconic white Mount Panorama letters on the nearby mountain. The John Cousins and Kangaroo Walking Tracks make it easy to navigate your way through the reserve.

Grab your bike and get a map from the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre, then make your way to Macquarie River. This family-friendly cycling loop includes the Denison Bridge which provides a great view of the riverine landscapes, and several Insta-worthy heritage hot spots.
