SUMMARY:Bathurst Dances\, Old Time and New Vogue Dance
DESCRIPTION:Dancing the old fashioned way\, with a another in your arms. Waltzes\, Tangos\, Saunters\, Jive and Swing in a sequenced way. Short demos before many dances\, but nothing beats\, standing up and simply giving it a go\, then having a laugh or giggle at your own attempts\, the way it was done in the old days\, still the cheapest way to learn.

SUMMARY:Author Talk - Age of Doubt
DESCRIPTION:Join editors and journalists\, Tracey Kirkland and Gavin Fang\, to discuss this insightful collection of essays and the lessons to take away as we navigate this age of doubt and misinformation.Explore the origins of misinformation culture and its impact on democracy. This collection looks at the moral and ethical foundations our institutions are built on and shines a light on the media and its role in sorting fact from fiction.Bookings essential: 6333 6281 \nCopies of the book will be for sale on the night. \nAbout the bookToday\, trust seems harder to find than ever before. It’s hardly surprising we feel that way. Our politics is polarised\, our online world is awash with misinformation\, and we’ve lost faith in our bedrock institutions. Yet\, without trust\, we cannot work together to solve the big problems we face. But there is a way back. A way to rediscover trust in our leaders and institutions. A way to tackle the doubt. This insightful collection of essays brings together top thinkers from across the globe in media\, science\, government\, academia and business to examine how and why trust is disappearing\, and how we might navigate these confusing times. From expert minds in business\, science and law enforcement the book explains how to maintain trust and how easily it can be broken\, and leaders on the front line of technological development describe the influence of bots\, conspiracy theories and generative AI.If we are to address the big issues facing our world\, then we must have trust\, because without it we have no sense of shared reality. Alone\, we can’t do it. Together\, we might. \nAbout the authorsTracey Kirkland is an Australian news journalist who has worked in broadcast and print for more than 30 years. She is currently the Continuous News Editor in charge of TV and video at ABC News Channel\, and was previously the ABC’s national senior newsgathering editor. DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Tours // ESSSENSSSE\nJoin a FREE\, guided exhibition tour by BRAG staff on Saturdays at 11am! \nFree\, all welcome\, RSVP online or at gallery reception. \nBathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) presents ESSSENSSSE\, a joyful work about healing and new beginnings by acclaimed contemporary artist HOSSEI (NSW)\, guest curated by Tesha Malott. \nESSSENSSSE is an aquatic ecosystem that explores the tenacity of the human spirit\, stripping away corporeal human qualities and revealing what’s underneath. ESSSENSSSE follows HOSSEI’s exploration of creating costumes that ‘heal’. Featuring a cast of 16 other-worldly sea creatures\, ESSSENSSSE transitions from a series of dynamic and joyful performances into a sensory\, large-scale installation\, in which visitors are surrounded by a playful\, 100% tactile landscape. \nESSSENSSSE began when HOSSEI became fascinated by the sand dollar sea creatures— their shape\, features\, and how in mediaeval times it was truly believed that sand dollars were mermaid currency. When looking at the sand dollar\, HOSSEI realised that if you were to remove the physical characteristics of a human body\, you would be left with a mouth and an anus\, just like the sand dollar. It is this idea that compelled HOSSEI to make the sand dollar an emblem of the show. An entry point and an exit\, not just with food\, but in the sense of discerning which energies come through and nourish the insides\, and which are let out. ESSSENSSSE is about letting go and being one with the spirit and embracing its purity and vulnerability. \nA Verge Gallery exhibition\, touring in partnership with Museums & Galleries of NSW\, supported by the University of Sydney and proudly funded by the NSW Government. Verge Gallery is supported by the University of Sydney Union. \nMore info \nImage: HOSSEI\, ESSSENSSSE\, 2023. Performer Lauren Booker. Dimensions variable. Photography by Jacquie Manning.
