Come along to find out why Bathurst petitioned the Governor General\, twice\, to allow it to finally form a Volunteer Rifle Corps in 1868.  Bathurst has a strong military history\, this talk will talk about this and identify some lines of local research to elucidate the Bathurst Volunteer Rifles Story.

SUMMARY:Old Government Cottage Open Day
DESCRIPTION:Open on the fourth Sunday of each month this fine example of early domestic Australian architecture\, Old Government Cottage has operated as a museum since 1965.  It is believed the cottage was built in the 1850s by Miss Ann Falloon\, as a residence and school to young ladies.  Old Government Cottage houses an exhibition on the development of Bathurst\, artworks and a display of local domestic objects.  The garden contains many heritage plants\, farm equipment and an original baker’s oven.
