SUMMARY:Godspell
DESCRIPTION:Before Wicked\, Stephen Schwartz burst onto the music theatre scene with Godspell\, introducing his ability to discover new meaning in established narratives. Equal parts playful and profound\, Godspell is a theatrical celebration that reminds us what truly matters\, and in 2026 BMMS is staging a special charity production of the timeless hit. \nOnly one performance at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre\, with all profits going towards the Central Tablelands and Blue Mountains Community Legal Centre. \nIn a world of increasing polarisation\, social inequality and uncertainty\, Godspell\, with its themes of compassion and generosity\, is a humorous and lively exploration of the value of community and connection. With rich harmonies\, a live 6-piece band\, and hits like Day by Day & Turn Back\, O Man\, the show’s eclectic mix of pop\, rock\, gospel\, and vaudeville makes for an infectious soundtrack.

SUMMARY:History Talk: Machattie Park
DESCRIPTION:How does a gaol in the centre of town become the ‘beauty spot of the West?’ Join Bathurst local Jan Page to find out in this history talk about Machattie Park.\nBookings essential: Call 6333 6281.\nMachattie Park in the heart of Bathurst is much-loved by locals and visitors alike who are drawn to its peaceful shade\, beautiful features and gardens\, and the spectacular annual begonia display. It is a place for gatherings and celebrations and a place of memories both personal and of prominent Bathurstians. The beautiful park stands on the site of Bathurst’s second gaol\, and its story is a fascinating one of transformation. \nDescribed as “the beauty spot of the West”\, Machattie Park was at the heart of civic events and public entertainment with grand occasions\, regular band concerts and fund-raising activities. Although there have been changes over the years as the plantings matured and successive gardeners adapted to the evolving garden and changing times\, the Victorian design of the original vision remains.\nJan Page OAM is the author of Machattie Park Bathurst. A well-known local\, Jan is also President of the Friends of Bathurst War Memorial Carillon and President of the Bathurst Family History Group. \nThis talk is part of the Australian Heritage Festival 2026 celebrating the theme ‘Change’.\nImage: Courtesy Bathurst District Historical Society

SUMMARY:Australian Haydn Ensemble – Beethoven's Fourth
DESCRIPTION:How does that one go again? Neglected even amongst Beethoven’s even-numbered “B-side” symphonies\, No. 4 in B flat can be slow to spring to mind\, but once that effervescent first subject banishes the mock-gloomy introduction\, the delights of this work come flooding back. “Masterclass” is applicable\, but it’s far too much fun for that. The Watts arrangement for flute and string sextet lends a filigree of clarity to a warm and witty work that will leave audiences beaming. \nPre-interval also sees the AHE in miniature symphonic mode. In 2025\, listeners loved the Linz\, so roll on Mozart’s prequel\, The Haffner Symphony\, K. 385\, also presented in Cimador’s bite-sized arrangement. Written in a whirlwind of deadlines\, weddings and house-moving\, Mozart famously forgot he’d composed it at all – only to discover it was rather good. Generations of listeners agree: it brims over with opera buffa bravura and rollicking rhythm. \nBoccherini may be short on symphonies to pare down\, but his predilection for extra bottom end with his string quintets always gives them an ambition beyond the chamber. The one in A minor from 1778’s Op. 25 has the deep lustre and nobility of a substantial work. As you’ll discover\, there’s no shortage of his unmistakable character: from galloping caballos to a closing rondo in Turkish style. \nLean and lovely fare and a fourth to be reckoned with. \nBMEC’s presentation of The Australian Haydn Ensemble is proudly sponsored by Ben Gelin OAM Solicitor and Notary Public. \nEvent Notes: Genre Classical Music\nAge: All ages

SUMMARY:Morning Ragas at The Keystone
DESCRIPTION:This is the second instalment of Evening Ragas at the Keystone. Morning ragas. As this system of Indian classical music is not only set to seasons\, it is also set to times of day\, so certain melody forms or Ragas can only be performed at the prescribed time. As the musicians tour the world playing this music it is common that the audiences are mostly exposed to evening ragas. So this is a rare opportunity to experience the morning music. \nThis concert will be very relaxed\, the audience is encouraged to dress in comfortable clothes and bring a cushion\, or use the seating provided of course. There will bear sick packs and chai available as an add on to the ticket price\n ( check link ). So come and enjoy some Sunday Morning Music and take a break from the hectic world. Once again there will be projections\, this time Sunrise of the Ganges\, that has been specifically designed by Sarangi student and artist Annabel McLure.

SUMMARY:And Also With You
DESCRIPTION:From the age of 0-18\, Simon Vaughan was a Christian. Not just the ‘tick the box on the census form’ kind but the ‘attend church every week\, read your Bible every day (or at least feel guilty if you don’t)\, constantly praying’ kind. For 18 years\, church was everything from an extended family\, to a school to a dating service. \nAnd Also With You is a storytelling adventure that recounts the good\, the bad and the ‘peace be with you’ of growing up when you FROG (fully rely on God). From youth group camps to purity pledges it’s about living with the weight of original sin on your shoulders and the eventual choice to cast if off. \nThe show is about growing up a Christian\, grappling with life’s biggest questions and finding your place in the world. When Simon was a Christian\, all his non-Christian friends thought his faith was weird and confusing. When he left the church at 18\, all his Christian friends were devastated and wanted to know what went wrong. The show explains himself to both groups. \nA church service without all the boring stuff\, And Also With You takes you inside church walls to find out what life is really like when Jesus is your best friend.

SUMMARY:Blueberry Play
DESCRIPTION:Being 17 is awkward. Having to take care of your sick dad when you’re 17 is another story. Especially when he keeps trying to shave his eyebrows off. \nBlueberry Play is the Griffin Award-shortlisted play from playwright Ang Collins\, presented in a brand new smash-hit production from regional new work powerhouse Lingua Franca. \nA monologue for a solo performer (the astonishing Madelaine Osborn)\, Blueberry Play is a vivid and heart-bursting monologue that explores the high highs and the low lows of being a teenage girl in a small town. From the public pool to the locker rooms at school to back home where things are just a bit topsy-turvy\, this is an Aussie coming-of-age story with a refreshing twist. \nA play for anyone that remember what it feels like being a young person\, Blueberry Play is heart-rending\, intimately observed\, often hilarious\, and packaged in a powerful one-person performance\, and an absolutely unforgettable night out at the theatre. \nThis production was originally supported by Upstage at the Playhouse\, a new work development initiative from the Civic Theatre Newcastle.

SUMMARY:21 Hearts
DESCRIPTION:21 Hearts – Vivian Bullwinkel and the Nurses of the Vyner Brooke\n\nA compelling true story from WWII\, honouring the bravery strength\, love and hope of Australian Army Nurses in the face of adversity.\n\nVivian Bullwinkel was one of 65 Australian nurses who boarded the Vyner Brooke in an attempt to flee the Japanese invasion of Singapore in February\, 1942. Bombed by Japanese fighter planes and after spending days at sea\, she and some other survivors found their way to Radji Beach on Banka Island where they surrendered.\n\nIn one of the most atrocious acts of war crimes in our history\, 22 nurses were forced to march into the sea where they were callously machine gunned. The only survivor and witness\, Vivian spent the rest of the war in a prison camp before liberation\, and her remaining years fighting for recognition of the bravery of her friends and colleagues; their strength and courage in the face of death sustaining her for the rest of her illustrious life.\n\n21 Hearts relays the resilient Aussie humour displayed by the women in the camp and provides a respectful and authentic voice to those who were silenced\, remembering them for who they were and not just for what happened to them.\n\nA story of hope\, courage\, resilience and heart.\n\nFeaturing six of Western Australia’s most outstanding actors\, 21 HEARTS is a celebration of the human spirit and an uplifting\, inspiring story which reminds us of the great futility of war.\n\nWritten by Jenny Davis\nDirected by Stuart Halusz\nFeaturing Caitlin Beresford-Ord\, Rebecca Davis\, Michelle Fornasier\, Alex Jones\, Tegan Mulvany and Helen Searle.
