SUMMARY:Morning Ragas at The Keystone
DESCRIPTION:This is the second instalment of Evening Ragas at the Keystone. Morning ragas. As this system of Indian classical music is not only set to seasons\, it is also set to times of day\, so certain melody forms or Ragas can only be performed at the prescribed time. As the musicians tour the world playing this music it is common that the audiences are mostly exposed to evening ragas. So this is a rare opportunity to experience the morning music. \nThis concert will be very relaxed\, the audience is encouraged to dress in comfortable clothes and bring a cushion\, or use the seating provided of course. There will bear sick packs and chai available as an add on to the ticket price\n ( check link ). So come and enjoy some Sunday Morning Music and take a break from the hectic world. Once again there will be projections\, this time Sunrise of the Ganges\, that has been specifically designed by Sarangi student and artist Annabel McLure.

SUMMARY:And Also With You
DESCRIPTION:From the age of 0-18\, Simon Vaughan was a Christian. Not just the ‘tick the box on the census form’ kind but the ‘attend church every week\, read your Bible every day (or at least feel guilty if you don’t)\, constantly praying’ kind. For 18 years\, church was everything from an extended family\, to a school to a dating service. \nAnd Also With You is a storytelling adventure that recounts the good\, the bad and the ‘peace be with you’ of growing up when you FROG (fully rely on God). From youth group camps to purity pledges it’s about living with the weight of original sin on your shoulders and the eventual choice to cast if off. \nThe show is about growing up a Christian\, grappling with life’s biggest questions and finding your place in the world. When Simon was a Christian\, all his non-Christian friends thought his faith was weird and confusing. When he left the church at 18\, all his Christian friends were devastated and wanted to know what went wrong. The show explains himself to both groups. \nA church service without all the boring stuff\, And Also With You takes you inside church walls to find out what life is really like when Jesus is your best friend.

SUMMARY:Blueberry Play
DESCRIPTION:Being 17 is awkward. Having to take care of your sick dad when you’re 17 is another story. Especially when he keeps trying to shave his eyebrows off. \nBlueberry Play is the Griffin Award-shortlisted play from playwright Ang Collins\, presented in a brand new smash-hit production from regional new work powerhouse Lingua Franca. \nA monologue for a solo performer (the astonishing Madelaine Osborn)\, Blueberry Play is a vivid and heart-bursting monologue that explores the high highs and the low lows of being a teenage girl in a small town. From the public pool to the locker rooms at school to back home where things are just a bit topsy-turvy\, this is an Aussie coming-of-age story with a refreshing twist. \nA play for anyone that remember what it feels like being a young person\, Blueberry Play is heart-rending\, intimately observed\, often hilarious\, and packaged in a powerful one-person performance\, and an absolutely unforgettable night out at the theatre. \nThis production was originally supported by Upstage at the Playhouse\, a new work development initiative from the Civic Theatre Newcastle.

SUMMARY:21 Hearts
DESCRIPTION:21 Hearts – Vivian Bullwinkel and the Nurses of the Vyner Brooke\n\nA compelling true story from WWII\, honouring the bravery strength\, love and hope of Australian Army Nurses in the face of adversity.\n\nVivian Bullwinkel was one of 65 Australian nurses who boarded the Vyner Brooke in an attempt to flee the Japanese invasion of Singapore in February\, 1942. Bombed by Japanese fighter planes and after spending days at sea\, she and some other survivors found their way to Radji Beach on Banka Island where they surrendered.\n\nIn one of the most atrocious acts of war crimes in our history\, 22 nurses were forced to march into the sea where they were callously machine gunned. The only survivor and witness\, Vivian spent the rest of the war in a prison camp before liberation\, and her remaining years fighting for recognition of the bravery of her friends and colleagues; their strength and courage in the face of death sustaining her for the rest of her illustrious life.\n\n21 Hearts relays the resilient Aussie humour displayed by the women in the camp and provides a respectful and authentic voice to those who were silenced\, remembering them for who they were and not just for what happened to them.\n\nA story of hope\, courage\, resilience and heart.\n\nFeaturing six of Western Australia’s most outstanding actors\, 21 HEARTS is a celebration of the human spirit and an uplifting\, inspiring story which reminds us of the great futility of war.\n\nWritten by Jenny Davis\nDirected by Stuart Halusz\nFeaturing Caitlin Beresford-Ord\, Rebecca Davis\, Michelle Fornasier\, Alex Jones\, Tegan Mulvany and Helen Searle.

SUMMARY:Saplings
DESCRIPTION:Stories from the law and justice system \n“I wasn’t there ‘cause I wanted to be\, I was there ‘cause I had to be\, okay? If Josh hadn’t eaten my noodles\, I wouldn’t be here.” \nWould you risk breaking bail for a packet of Mi Goreng? Would you snitch on a mate to save your own skin? Around here\, ordinary days can turn on you so fast you’ve still got a smile on your face as your hopes die in your hands. \nYani wants to go to the Easter Show\, Kai wants a sense of home\, Shanika wants her Mum back\, and Lachlan…well\, he just wants his bowl of noodles. But when the justice system is all that stands between these young people and what they want\, it raises an important question—how do young people grow when the system keeps cutting them down? \nAfter premiering at The Rebel Theatre for the Sydney Festival in 2024 and winning Sydney Theatre Award’s Best Production for Young People\, Yuwaalaray playwright Hannah Belanszky and Kalkadoon director Abbie-lee Lewis bring Saplings to the stage once again\, a collection of hilarious and heartbreaking stories born from workshops with young people experiencing the youth justice system from Marrickville to Moree. Four talented young actors take on multiple roles in this poetic\, personal\, and unexpected production that will leave you asking who’s really to blame. \nSet to a soundtrack of rap and hip-hop music made by young people in the youth justice system\, Saplings gives an honest\, raw look into the adult consequences faced by some of our most vulnerable. Join us at BMEC for a show full of laughter\, tears\, and celebration of the survival instincts of young people.

SUMMARY:Bombshells
DESCRIPTION:With singing\, dancing\, comedy and the joys of sheer honesty\, Joanna Murray-Smith’s acclaimed play Bombshells is a journey from crisis to hilarity\, via the thoughts of a group of women all linked by more than just their proximity to the edge; a nervous bride-to-be\, an exhausted young mother\, a widow with a yearning for the unexpected\, a broken-hearted cactus lover\, and a feisty teenage talent-quest competitor. \nJoy\, drama\, crisis\, fear\, revelation – there are times where you have to remain cool and calm on the outside. The inside\, meanwhile\, is a flailing monologue of personal pep talks\, perish-the-thoughts and perpetual panic. Bombshells strips back the masks we wear to reveal the things that sometimes we’d just love to say out loud.

SUMMARY:In Their Own Words – Rachael Beck
DESCRIPTION:In Their Own Words celebrates the songs and stories of twenty trailblazing Australian women; some whom are recognised\, many whom are not. \nRachael weaves verbatim words and anecdotes collected from women including Ita Buttrose\, Tanya Plibersek\, Marcia Langton and Carlotta\, with the music of famous Australian songwriters such as Missy Higgins\, Kate Miller-Heidke\, Kate Ceberano\, and Dami Im\, to create a powerful tapestry of female strength and achievement. From artists to scientists\, politicians to humanitarians\, these are stories of triumph\, resilience\, and breakthrough – mostly never before heard on stage. \nDeveloped with writer James Millar\, directed by Miranda Middleton\, In Their Own Words is a moving musical tribute to some of the extraordinary Australian women who have defined and made their mark on our culture. \nWith contributions from visual artists\, architects\, scientists\, writers\, songwriters\, conservationists\, politicians\, athletes\, entertainers and humanitarians\, In Their Own Words celebrates the life\, times and epiphanies of Australian women who have achieved incredible things… and overcome incredible trials.

SUMMARY:Wolf
DESCRIPTION:Clad in designer Libby McDonnell’s form-hugging costumes and set to DJ Ori Lichtik’s relentless primal rhythms\, the cast of ten extraordinary Circa artists grasp\, tear\, climb\, leap and balance with fierce abandon. \nFor Director Yaron Lifschitz\, the wolf is a symbol of our untameable selves: liberating\, anarchic and savage. In two contrasting acts\, the wolves evolve from disruptive forces of chaos into a ferocious pack whose intense choreographies overflow with raw energy and astounding physicality.
