DESCRIPTION:Discover more about the life of George Frideric Handel (1685-1759)\, a composer known for his operas and oratorios\, presented by musicologist Dennis Dorwick. \nMany know the music of Handel\, a German-born English composer\, but few know the details of his life. This talk will focus on the stories of three people who influenced his life in crucial and sometimes\, unusual\, ways.\nYou might imagine a composer writing music in a quiet garret… however\, music is almost always a collegial art. This was certainly true for Handel who loved both opera and oratorio. These stage arts demanded singing actors who could move both the hearts and minds of his audience. ‘Handel – a Harmony of Friendships’ will be accompanied with both images and musical examples. \nDennis Dorwick has a Master of Music (Research) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is a member of both the American Handel Society and the Handel Institute (UK). He is a flute player and a music teacher of over 21 years.
