SUMMARY:Exhibition Tours // ESSSENSSSE
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Tours // ESSSENSSSE \nJoin a FREE\, guided exhibition tour by BRAG staff on Saturdays at 11am!\nFree\, all welcome\, RSVP online or at gallery reception. \nBathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) presents ESSSENSSSE\, a joyful work about healing and new beginnings by acclaimed contemporary artist HOSSEI (NSW)\, guest curated by Tesha Malott. \nESSSENSSSE is an aquatic ecosystem that explores the tenacity of the human spirit\, stripping away corporeal human qualities and revealing what’s underneath. ESSSENSSSE follows HOSSEI’s exploration of creating costumes that ‘heal’. Featuring a cast of 16 other-worldly sea creatures\, ESSSENSSSE transitions from a series of dynamic and joyful performances into a sensory\, large-scale installation\, in which visitors are surrounded by a playful\, 100% tactile landscape. \nESSSENSSSE began when HOSSEI became fascinated by the sand dollar sea creatures— their shape\, features\, and how in mediaeval times it was truly believed that sand dollars were mermaid currency. When looking at the sand dollar\, HOSSEI realised that if you were to remove the physical characteristics of a human body\, you would be left with a mouth and an anus\, just like the sand dollar. It is this idea that compelled HOSSEI to make the sand dollar an emblem of the show. An entry point and an exit\, not just with food\, but in the sense of discerning which energies come through and nourish the insides\, and which are let out. ESSSENSSSE is about letting go and being one with the spirit and embracing its purity and vulnerability. \nA Verge Gallery exhibition\, touring in partnership with Museums & Galleries of NSW\, supported by the University of Sydney and proudly funded by the NSW Government. Verge Gallery is supported by the University of Sydney Union. \nImage: HOSSEI\, ESSSENSSSE\, 2023. Performer Lauren Booker. Dimensions variable. Photography by Jacquie Manning.

SUMMARY:From Taboo To Zeitgeist: Menopause Is Not A Use By Date
DESCRIPTION:Bathurst Library and Central West Women’s Health Centre Present\nA 2025 Women’s Health Week Event \nFrom Taboo To Zeitgeist\nMenopause Is Not A Use By Date \nAuthor Panel Conversation 3pm – 5pm\, $5pp\nMenopause\, once a whispered topic\, is now entering mainstream through comedy\, musicals\, and\, increasingly\, literature. This shift reflects evolving societal attitudes\, but more importantly\, it prompts us to examine how these extra decades are truly being lived.\nIt’s time to discard the outdated notion that women are shelved once they move into older age. Contemporary novels are embracing life\, love\, and sexuality in later years\, proving that aging isn’t about fading away—it’s about soaring.\nAudience questions and comments are welcome to foster discussion and conversation. \nWriting Workshop 5pm – 7pm\, $5pp\nIn our increasingly isolated society\, everyone has a story to tell\, but not everyone has the confidence to share. That’s where Readers Are Writers workshops come in. Presented by all three authors\, the workshop will refer back to the conversation from the panel\, covering central themes and discussion points.\nLight refreshments will be available between the sessions.

SUMMARY:Wild and Hunted Things - Australian Tour
DESCRIPTION:Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Wilkinson\, celebrates the release of his forthcoming album “Wild & Hunted Things” with a string of dates across the country this August and September.  \n\n\n\nWith a career that spans over a decade\, Wilkinson has cemented himself as one of Australia’s premiere acts with his soul stirring live performances and evocative songwriting. After building a global fanbase on the back of his busking roots in Sydney’s streets\, the troubadour has amassed over 150 million streams on Spotify\, sold in excess of 80\,000 physical albums and packed out headline shows across the world. As a support act he’s shared stages with Brian Wilson\, Rodriguez\, Xavier Rudd\, The Whitlams and Seal to name just a few.  \n\n\n\nSet for release on July 4th\, his new album “Wild & Hunted Things” is a hybrid of eloquent folk\, evocative indie and enigmatic pop brought to life at the fabled Svenska Grammofonstudion in Gothenburg Sweden. \n\n\n\n“For me\, Wild & Hunted Things represent those magical parts of life that make us feel enriched and energized. This record is written about trying to nurture and preserve those things whilst navigating life’s inevitable challenges and hardships that can endanger your spirit.” – Mark Wilkinson \n\n\n\nA natural storyteller\, Wilkinson’s songs find inspiration in life’s perpetual shifts and in the joy\, hardships and triumphs that result. Infused with a voice drenched in soul\, this is music that reaches out and strikes listeners at their emotional core. \n\n\n\n“Sometimes you catch a voice that makes your heart just soar and Mark Wilkinson has one of those voices. So emotive\, so moving…” (Americana Highways) \n\n\n\n“There’s a glow of warmth around him and a richness to his supreme voice\, sending shivers down spines as he pulls you into the soul of him” (Hazel Buckley – The Music)

SUMMARY:Author Talk - Gina Chick
DESCRIPTION:A special fundraising event for the Bathurst Writers’ and Readers’ Festival. \nThe Bathurst Writers’ & Readers’ Festival Committee are pleased to be welcoming Gina Chick to Bathurst to talk about her best selling memoir We Are the Stars. \nGina will be in person at the library to talk about her writing and her book. Her grandmother\, Charmian Clift\, was an author\, essayist and Australia’s first female columnist in the early 60’s. Charmian married George Johnston (My Brother Jack) and they lived together on Hydra with Leonard Cohen and bohemian expats. Charmian’s teenage indiscretion\, an illegitimate daughter\, was given up for adoption. Gina’s mum\, Suzanne Chick\, who\, after finally discovering her mother’s identity at 48\, wrote her own book\, Searching For Charmian\, which was shortlisted for the NBC Banjo Award. \nGina was one of ten participants of the first series of Alone Australia\, made by iTV and screened on SBS in 2023. After 67 days of unforgettable moments of searing vulnerability\, Gina was the last person standing\, and the second woman to win an Alone solo challenge. \nHer determination\, passion\, and love of the natural world endeared her to more than 5.5 million people around Australia. Gina’s articles have been published in The Guardian\, news.com.au\, Mamamia and SBS online. Her first book\, We Are the Stars\, published by Summit Books at Simon & Schuster\, is a bestselling memoir of love\, connection and the glorious power of letting go.
