SUMMARY:Exhibition Tours
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the gallery each Saturday during our current exhibitions\, for a free guided tour! \nSaturdays\, 11am\nFREE\, all welcome\, RSVP online or at BRAG reception \nOur current suite of exhibitions includes: \nA Tear in the Fabric presents new and existing works from nine Asian and Asian Australian artists who embrace distortion as a mode of disruption. In partnership with 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art\, the exhibition revolves around notions of aesthetic\, material and conceptual interventions integrated into established forms of creative practice. Picking at the seams to make space for new narratives and artistic approaches\, we see exploratory excursions into concepts of place\, materiality\, memory\, identity and perception\, manifesting in a diverse range of mediums. \nTea Ceremony in the Celestial Garden\, is reminiscent of the famous Japanese food display ‘shokuhin sampuru’ or French pastries display in Paris\, the cakes are mouth-watering\, but not for consumption. The construction of the cakes in ceramics is labour-intensive\, down to each sprinkle of hundreds and thousands. Their imaginary forms conjure a colourful\, dream-like world. This project was created during a 2025 artist residency at the PumpHouse Albury. \nLandscapes of Imagination: From the Collection\, bringing together works from the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery Collection that reflect the enduring artistic allure of Hill End. This historic village has captured the imaginations of artists drawn to its layered histories\, dramatic terrain\, and evocative sense of place. \nImage: Jayanto Tan\, Berries Cream Tarts\, 2025\, ceramic\, 9 x 26 x 26 x 26 cm. SUMMARY:Supported Story Time
DESCRIPTION:Join our series of low sensory story times for children and their carers who need more time to wiggle\, settle and be comfortable in the library space. \n\n\n\nThe sessions will feature books\, rhymes\, wiggle movements and visual cues throughout\, while being a friendly and supported space before the library opens to the public. \n\n\n\nAs the story time is held in the library before opening hours\, we ask that you arrive a few minutes early or on time so you can access the building. If you are no longer able to attend\, we would appreciate you letting us know as soon as you can\, so we can alert anyone on our waitlist. \n\n\n\nPlease bring a drink and any fidgets your child needs\, clearly labelled. \n\n\n\nIf you require anything specific in order to attend\, or have any questions\, please reach out to the Bathurst Library Team on 02 6333 6281. Please note we may not be able to cater to a specific request to accommodate your child but will do the best we can within the library space. \n\n\n\nThese sessions are a trial to assess if our community will attend and support a low-sensory story time\, further sessions may be released\, and all feedback you have would be appreciated. \n\n\n\nChildren must be accompanied by an adult carer at all times.

SUMMARY:Telling Your Truths: Writing about Illness and Disability
DESCRIPTION:FREE. Limited Spaces. Bookings Essential – 6333 6281 \nIn this workshop\, Kim Kelly and Michelle Hamadache will share their stories of writing about and with illness and disability with practical writing advice.\nParticipants will also be encouraged to experiment with how they might express themselves\, and how to give themselves permission to write their truths in the ways that suits them best\, be that through life-writing\, fiction or poetry – to say the things we can’t say or the things that aren’t heard within doctors’ offices or even among friends. \nLiving with illness or disability\, or caring for a loved one living with health challenges\, can be isolating. We’re given lots of medical advice and helpful and not-so-helpful opinions on how to get through\, but at the end of the day we’re alone with our thoughts and experiences.\nWe’re often told of the therapeutic benefits of creativity and sharing our stories\, but how do we go about accessing the creative part of ourselves?\nThere’s also often a little voice in our heads saying\, ‘Why bother?’ or ‘I don’t have anything important to say’. But everyone has something important to say about their unique experience of life. \nTea and coffee provided. \nAbout the writers\nDr Michelle Hamadache teaches Creative Writing at Macquarie University and is editor of the magazine Mascara Literary Review. Her story on her father’s dementia appears in the anthology Writing Illness and Disability: Poised on the Pointe of Pain: Nureyev’s Foot and Other Essays. \nKim Kelly is the author of several novels. She is also currently in the midst of Creative Writing PhD research at Macquarie University. Her essay on kidney donation appears in the anthology Writing Illness and Disability: Poised on the Pointe of Pain: Nureyev’s Foot and Other Essays. She lives in Millthorpe.
