SUMMARY:BATHURST ANNUAL AUSTRALIA DAY TRIATHLON
DESCRIPTION:Bathurst’s Biggest Triathlon Event of the Year\nWhile the Australia Day Triathlon in Bathurst is one of the most prestigious events in Country NSW\, it is a wonderful way to celebrate Australia Day\, giving the citizens of Bathurst an opportunity to get “out an active” on Australia Day Morning. The Australia Day event is the Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Clubs round in the Central West Interclub series and is quite a spectacle\, bragging an excellent Honour Roll.\nThe event is based at Stanley Street which is a very historic site\, being where Governor and Lady Macquarie proclaimed the city and first European Settlement in Inland Australia. But prior to this\, the venue was the meeting place of the two dominant water courses of the Bathurst Plains: with the Wambool (Macquarie River) and Vale creek joining at the location. This had created a sandy beach & swimming hole long before white settlement. (NOTE around a century ago\, the Queen Charlotte’s Vale Creek was redirected by the Municipal Council to join the Macquarie/Wambool River further upstream).\nThe 2026 Aussie Day event starting adjacent to the Wambuul Ceremonial Ground & 2015 Bicentennial meeting site\, with race organisers asking all to consider the history of the Wiradyuri Nation at this old natural water hole site. This event is a celebration of life in Australia on our National Day\, as well as the Bathurst round of the Central West Interclub Series.

SUMMARY:Rhyme & Reason: Author Talk with Susan Ackroyd
DESCRIPTION:Discover the fascinating history behind many well-known children’s rhymes with the author of Rhyme and Reason (English history through nursery rhymes)\, Susan Ackroyd.\nMany of the 20 rhymes explored in the book are political satire\, mocking the establishment of the day\, particularly the Tudor and Stuart periods of the 16th and 17th centuries. They reveal the turbulent relationship between monarch and people\, religious divides and the impacts of war. Over the centuries these rhymes have endured but their origins are now largely forgotten. \nCenturies ago\, someone felt irked by the unfairness of farm labour and whispered about black sheep.\nPeople were so incensed by the antics of a bloke called Henry they made up a rhyme calling him a poor little doggie.\nA siege machine was christened Humpty Dumpty\, mocking a royal army’s attempts to fight.\nAnd\, Susan’s favourite rhyme\, the baby in a treetop\, spoke about a bloodless revolution giving birth to constitutional monarchy. \nHear Susan talk about the intriguing history behind these rhymes and more. \nAbout the author\nSusan’s working life was spent mainly in education\, starting as a high school English/History teacher. She also worked with adult migrants and refugees before returning to university to become a lawyer. While studying\, Susan found work in the vocational education sector and then worked for six years in the field of elder law\, until the training sector lured her back.\nNow retired\, Susan has written two books: Rhyme and Reason (English history through nursery rhymes) and Rhyme & Reason (Edition 2 – Mystery and History).

SUMMARY:Maker Space
DESCRIPTION:Head to Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) for our Maker’s Space activities of collage and colouring for our current exhibitions! \nMaterials and stool provided\nFREE\, self-guided session\nNo experience required\nAll ages welcome\, children must be supervised \nBRAG is open:\n10am – 5pm Tuesday through Friday\n10am – 2pm Saturday & Sunday \nAbout the Exhibitions \nWe Are Studios: Acts of Inheritance\nActs of Inheritance presents new work from seventeen Disabled artists who explore identity as something lived\, layered and continually remade. We come to know ourselves through small\, everyday acts and performances – our own and those of others\, families\, cultures and communities as they leave their mark upon us.\nSome artists revisit family stories or inherited acts; others reflect on Disability\, mental health\, and shifting perceptions of self and how we perform it. Here\, inheritance is not fixed or predetermined\, but enacted through the choices we make\, the stories we tell and the ways we show up for one another.\nThrough these works\, Acts of Inheritance invites us to imagine identity as something performed in ongoing dialogue between who we have been\, who we are becoming and the worlds that shape us. \nWe Are Studios is a 100% Disability-led\, artist-run initiative empowering Disabled Western Sydney artists to thrive.\nArtists: Aili Brenton\, Virginia Bucknell\, Ria Cirera-Cruz\, Taylah Devlin\, Holly-lee Dickson\, Georgina Evans\, Nina Frankie\, Leanne Larwood\, Timothy W. Martin\, Grazia Napoletano\, Adrienne Proud\, Rebecca Sciroli\, Kiri Smith\, Jane Thatcher\, Miah Tito-Barratt\, Jordan Valageorgiou\, Eden Young. \nCurated by We Are Studios Collective.\nThe project is supported by the New South Wales Government through Create NSW and by the Australian Government through Creative Australia\, its principal arts investment and advisory body. \nLiz Bryan: Pattern Recognition\nLiz Bryan is a visual artist and designer working across drawing\, painting\, textiles\, sculpture and digital media. Her practice is shaped by an ongoing interest in esoteric knowledge\, mythologies and ritual\, and engages with themes of womanhood\, place\, and the hidden or overlooked histories of feminine experience. Moving fluidly between art and craft\, Liz’s work also reflects on the intersections of science\, mysticism and material knowledge.\nFor Pattern Recognition at BRAG\, Liz presents a body of work that explores the microcosmic world and the underlying geometry inherent in biological structures. Informed by sacred geometry and esoteric traditions outlined in Plato’s Timaeus\, the exhibition draws on the symbolism of the five Platonic solids—earth\, water\, air\, fire and ether—as metaphors for both physical and metaphysical systems. The relationship between microcosm and macrocosm\, particularly as seen in DNA structures and natural patterning\, underpins the work.\nThrough this work Liz explores the esoteric potential of shape\, line\, colour and form. Historic textile motifs\, including ogee forms and repeating half-brick patterns\, further inform the visual language of the exhibition. Through sculptures and paintings\, Pattern Recognition reveals pattern as a connective force—linking matter\, meaning and the unseen structures that shape our world. \nBathurst Regional Art Gallery is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW. \nBanner image credits: (Left) Timothy W.
