SUMMARY:Jhana Allan @ Little Alberts with Alice Blackwood
DESCRIPTION:Jhana AllanUralla-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jhana Allan celebrates the release of her sublime sophomore album titled ‘Fake Paradise’. Themes of desire\, addiction\, and awareness of the artist’s own need for prioritising rest\, forms the backdrop of this shape-shifting release. In 2022 Allan raised thousands of dollars from her community and fans via Kickstarter\, and travelled to Nashville in January of 2023 to record with her mentor\, Americana artist Rachel Baiman and multi Grammy-winning engineer Sean Sullivan\, with a band of session musicians including guitar player Cy Winstanley (Brandy Clark)\, drummer Jon Epcar (Bono\, Rihanna\, Colbie Caillat)\, and Baiman’s band members; drummer Lauren Horbal and bass player Steve Haan. Drawing inspiration from musicians like The Weather Station\, Sam Amidon\, PJ Harvey\, and Lucie Thorne\, the album moves through folk\, jazz\, and rock soundscapes\, retaining a throughline of Allan’s visceral and emotive writing and singing\, and grounded by her layered vocal presence. \n\n\n\nAlice BlackwoodAlice Blackwood is a singer-songwriter and poet known for thought-provoking\, moving performances with a quirky twist. In 2024 she was a finalist with honourable mention in BMEC’s Regional Songwriting Contest. She has twice been a finalist in the NSW Poetry Slam\, and in 2020 she developed a solo show of music and poetry- In Breath (a poetic performance for plants and their people). Most often wielding a baritone ukulele\, with some forays into vocal looping and piano; while the format may change\, consistent threads of connection with nature and social justice shine through. \n\n\n\nDoors 1pm\, music starts 2.30pm

SUMMARY:Artist & Curator Talk // ESSSENSSSE
DESCRIPTION:Artist & Curator Talk // ESSSENSSSE\nSaturday 5 July\, 11am \nJoin ESSSENSSSE artist HOSSEI and guest curator Tesha Malott in conversation at Bathurst Regional Art Gallery.\nFREE\, all welcome\, RSVP essential \nBathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) presents ESSSENSSSE\, a joyful work about healing and new beginnings by acclaimed contemporary artist HOSSEI (NSW)\, guest curated by Tesha Malott. \nESSSENSSSE is an aquatic ecosystem that explores the tenacity of the human spirit\, stripping away corporeal human qualities and revealing what’s underneath. ESSSENSSSE follows HOSSEI’s exploration of creating costumes that ‘heal’. Featuring a cast of 16 other-worldly sea creatures\, ESSSENSSSE transitions from a series of dynamic and joyful performances into a sensory\, large-scale installation\, in which visitors are surrounded by a playful\, 100% tactile landscape. \nESSSENSSSE began when HOSSEI became fascinated by the sand dollar sea creatures— their shape\, features\, and how in mediaeval times it was truly believed that sand dollars were mermaid currency. When looking at the sand dollar\, HOSSEI realised that if you were to remove the physical characteristics of a human body\, you would be left with a mouth and an anus\, just like the sand dollar. It is this idea that compelled HOSSEI to make the sand dollar an emblem of the show. An entry point and an exit\, not just with food\, but in the sense of discerning which energies come through and nourish the insides\, and which are let out. ESSSENSSSE is about letting go and being one with the spirit and embracing its purity and vulnerability. \nA Verge Gallery exhibition\, touring in partnership with Museums & Galleries of NSW\, supported by the University of Sydney and proudly funded by the NSW Government. Verge Gallery is supported by the University of Sydney Union. \nImage: HOSSEI\, ESSSENSSSE\, 2023. Performer Lauren Booker. Dimensions variable. Photography by Jacquie Manning.

SUMMARY:OPENING // Mystery of Missing Westerlies
DESCRIPTION:OPENING // Mystery of Missing Westerlies\nA BRAG Foyer Space Exhibition by Ecological Gyre Theory \nAuslan interpreted opening speeches (VRI)\nCatering by BRAGS\nBeverages by sponsors Grass Parrot Vineyard\, Renzaglia Wines\, and Cosmo Brewing\nFREE\, all welcome\, RSVP essential \nBathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) presents Mystery of Missing Westerlies by Chantelle Mitchell and Jaxon Waterhouse (Ecological Gyre Theory). \nMystery of Missing Westerlies is a body of work emerging in response to a news article from April 7\, 1950 which details “extraordinary weather”; a local manifestation of global atmospheric change\, being the disappearance of westerly winds across New South Wales in response to planetary changes sweeping the northern hemisphere. Working across installation\, video and intervention\, Mystery of Missing Westerlies considers pasts\, presents and futures in an interconnected planetary atmospheric frame. \nThe disappearance of the westerly winds is itself both a historical anomaly and a planetary omen. We treat this climatic rupture as an atmospheric case file\, a study in atmospheric disappearance\, inviting consideration of the interplay between absence\, evidence\, and the forces shaping our world. Here\, wind becomes both subject and metaphor—an invisible actor whose movements carry sediments\, shape deserts\, and drive oceanic currents\, but also a narrative force whose disappearance tells of shifting global patterns. Embedded within this body of work are material traces of evidence and investigation\, material clues in a wider investigation of climate\, memory\, and time.

SUMMARY:Opening // ESSSENSSSE
DESCRIPTION:OPENING NIGHT // ESSSENSSSE\nFriday 4 July\, 6-8PM \nAuslan interpreted opening speeches (VRI)\nESSSENSSSE Performance\nCatering by BRAGS\nBeverages by sponsors Grass Parrot Vineyard\, Renzaglia Wines\, Cosmo Brewing\nFREE\, all welcome\, RSVP essential \nBathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) presents ESSSENSSSE\, a joyful work about healing and new beginnings by acclaimed contemporary artist HOSSEI (NSW)\, guest curated by Tesha Malott.

SUMMARY:Good Old Days Of Rock N’ Roll
DESCRIPTION:The pioneers of the Australian rock ’n’ roll era have joined together in concert for the first time in 60 years.\n\n\n\nTHE GOOD OLD DAYS OF ROCK ’N’ ROLL is an exciting and memory riddled show presented by Bob McKinnon. From television shows including Johnny O’Keefe’s SIX O’CLOCK ROCK and Brian Henderson’s BANDSTAND\, so many talented performers and recording stars were born. This is not a tribute concert … this is the real deal. \n\n\n\nIn THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF ROCK ’N’ ROLL \, audiences will re-live all the FABULOUS ORIGINAL HITS from the HITMAKERS themselves – LITTLE PATTIE\, DIGGER REVELL\, JADE HURLEY\, DINAH LEE and LUCKY STARR. \n\n\n\nLITTLE PATTIE debut single “He’s My Blonde Headed\, Stompie Wompie\, Real Gone Surfer Boy” / “Stompin” which used the surf music style and a dance style craze that was known as ‘The Stomp’. It was released in November 1963 when she was aged 14\, and reached No. 2 on the Sydney music charts. Further hits included “We’re Gonna Have a Party Tonight” (#18 in March 1965)\, “Pushin’ a Good Thing Too Far” (#28 in March 1965) and “Dance Puppet Dance” (#9 in October 1965). \n\n\n\nDINAH LEE (the ONE AND ONLY Queen of the MODS) is a New Zealand born SUPERSTAR with her International Number One Hits “Don’t You Know Yockomo”\, “Reet Petite” and “Do the Blue Beat” and is acknowledged as New Zealand’s greatest musical import to Australia. \n\n\n\nJADE HURLEY OAM dubbed by Johnny O’Keefe as “Australia’s King of Country Rock” is Australia’s very own “Piano Man” with the unique “record” that every record he has released\, has achieved GOLD\, PLATINUM or DOUBLE PLATINUM status in both Australia and New Zealand. \n\n\n\nLUCKY STARR is an Australian pioneer rock and roll\, pop and country music singer\, guitarist and television presenter. His most popular single\, “I’ve Been Everywhere”\, appeared in early 1962 and peaked at number one. During the late 1960s Lucky performed as a country musician taking his travelling show around the Australian Bush. He was inducted into the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame. \n\n\n\nDIGGER REVELL was credited with pioneering Australian Rock ’n’ Roll in Australia. He has performed with some of the greats\, including Chubby Checker\, Bobby Rydell and Johnny O’Keefe. He is still performing to this day. \n\n\n\nThis WONDERFUL REVIEW OF MEMORIES from those days is the “cream of the crop” who has survived over 70 years of continuous performing and who\, between them\, have recorded dozens of hits which they will perform as only each performer can\, taking every member of the audience back in time to where it all started. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPrices \n\n\n\nBMEC MembersAdult $90Concession (Senior/Pension) $87 \n\n\n\nNon-Members*Adults $96Concession (Senior/Pension) $89Groups of 8 or more $87 each \n\n\n\n* A $3 transaction fee applies\, BMEC members do not pay the transaction fee
