SUMMARY:Author Talk - Matt Murphy
DESCRIPTION:Bookings essential: 6333 6281\nCopies of the book will be for sale on the day. \nJoin author Matt Murphy for a deep dive into the true history behind the discovery of gold in Australia in his new book Gold.\nAbout the book \nAsk Google ‘who discovered gold in Australia?’ and you’ll promptly get ‘Edward Hammond Hargraves’. For decades Hargraves has received fame\, fortune and adulation from all corners of the country\, but did he earn it? \nWhat about the two diggers he met on the Californian goldfields who told him where to look when he returned to Australia?\nWhat about the guys who led him to where they’d heard gold had been found before?\nWhat about the pioneers whose discoveries had been documented years earlier? \nGold is the story of an oversized layabout who received years of accolades and free lunches\, despite lumbering from one embarrassment to the next\, and of those who spent decades trying to expose him and seek their share of the glory. \nAbout the author\nAs a school student\, Matt Murphy failed English and couldn’t see the point of history. He became a firie and has been serving in Sydney’s inner city for 33 years. He is now also a part-time historian and teacher\, tolerating the attitudes of kids towards history that he used to share.\nHe has written three books: Weight of Evidence\, about what was the longest civil court case in New South Wales; Rum\, about the formative influence of grog on the country; and Gold.\nMatt’s younger self would be aghast that he is now writing history books but be consoled by the absurdist voice old Matt has achieved. Matt also can’t believe he has to write his own bio.

SUMMARY:Ella Hooper - Live
DESCRIPTION:The Victoria Bathurst is proud to present Ella Hooper Live in Little AlbertsElla Hooper 8 pm \n\n\n\nElla Hooper burst onto the Australian music scene in the late 90’s as the technicolour teen front woman of Killing Heidi\, a band who went on to explode the naughties\, claiming pop rock dominion over the turn of the millenium. She scored her first number one single and released the fastest selling Australian album of all time in the year 2000. Ella was the first ever woman and youngest person to be awarded APRA’s Songwriter of the Year Award. \n\n\n\nAfter spending her ‘uni years’ touring the world in a wildly successful rock band\, she embarked on the first of a series of unexpected sidequests\, putting the band on extended haitus and pivoting to media\, hosting multiple TV and radio shows\, including ABC’s beloved music trivia show Spicks And Specks\, making her more than just a pop singer in her native Aus. \n\n\n\n2010 saw Hooper return to music under the moniker ‘The Verses’\, showcasing her love of Americana and classic West Coast harmonies. Produced by music legend Mitchell Froome\, it caught the ear of Fleetwood Mac and scored her the support slot on their 9 date Australian tour. Inspired by a conversation with Stevie Nicks\, Ella made her first official solo record in 2013 – the darkly energetic ‘In Tongues’ and now has three full length solo releases to her name\, traversing synth pop to dream folk and her most recent\, exploring the Americana genre once again\, Small Town Temple. \n\n\n\nWritten in her hometown of Violet Town Victoria\, in a period where both of her beloved parents tragically passed away from cancer within two weeks of each other\, Small Town Temple has been widely praised for its deeply personal songwriting and its unique ‘Australiana’ perspective. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Australian Country chart\, number 7 vinyl sales and was nominated for the prestigious Australian Music Prize. Firmly in her country era and carrying enough highs and lows to really do the genre justice\, Ella is now collaborating with Grammy Award winning stalwarts like Jim Lauderdale\, Steve Poltz and Melody Walker on the next record. Recorded in Nashville TN\, it’s set to be heavier on the twang\, more immediate in tone\, rich in stories from the past few years of chaos\, but as always – full of heart and enthusiasm.

SUMMARY:Kingswood - Live In Little Alberts
DESCRIPTION:Kingswood – with special guest Harry Carter. Live in Little Alberts \n\n\n\n– Doors 7.00 pm– Harry Carter 7.30 pm– Kingswood 8.30 pmNote – this is a limited seating event. Guests are encoured to eat in the hotel prior to entry. \n\n\n\nMulti Platinum & Gold ARIA certified\, ARIA nominated\, 4 x Golden Guitar nominees KINGSWOOD have returned. \n\n\n\nRefined\, electrifying\, and unapologetically raw\, KINGSWOOD stands at the crossroads of vintage rock and modern country. With a sound that feels like a shot of whiskey in a velvet glass—smooth yet burning with intensity—this Australian powerhouse has carved out a space where heartland rock meets the sounds of American nostalgia. \n\n\n\nFrom roaring festival stages to stripped-back honky-tonk sets\, KINGSWOOD delivers a brand of storytelling that’s equal parts elegance and edge. Their music pulses with the spirit of classic America —Springsteen’s fire\, Petty’s soul and Alan Jackson’s cheek—while weaving in their own signature of soulful harmonies\, driving guitars\, and a relentless pursuit of sonic authenticity. \n\n\n\nWith their latest release\, a searing rendition of Tom Petty’s ‘You Wreck Me\,’ KINGSWOOD brings new life to a timeless anthem. Fuelled by the reckless energy of love and destruction\, the track is a testament to the band’s ability to honor rock’s greats while making every note undeniably their own.“It’s love\, chaos\, and obsession colliding at full speed. The feeling of being completely wrecked by someone\, it’s something we’ve all lived through. Surrendering to a force greater than you’re able to control. The reckless pursuit of something you can’t quite hold onto. When we play it\, we’re tapping into that raw\, untamed emotion—like going into a boxing ring.”
