SUMMARY:Still Life Workshop @ BRAG
DESCRIPTION:ESSSENSSSE // Still Life Workshop\nLearn new techniques to capture colour\, shape\, and texture with local artist Rachel Pinel.\nThis workshop will be held within current exhibition ‘ESSSENSSSE’ by HOSSEI\, offering a contemporary perspective to classical techniques.\n\n• Thursday 21 August 2025\, 6-8pm\n• No experience necessary\, Ages: 18+\, Limited Tickets\n• $35 members\, $40 non-members\, RSVP essential\n\nRachel Pinel is a figurative realist painter based in the Central West of New South Wales\, Australia. She completed her academic training in drawing and painting at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy\, building on earlier studies at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney and the I. Repin St. Petersburg State Academy of Painting\, Sculpture and Architecture in Russia.\nWorking within the traditions of classical realism\, Pinel’s paintings explore light\, atmosphere\, and the quiet poetry of everyday subjects. Her work has been recognised in several prestigious art prizes\, including selection as a finalist in both the Lethbridge 2000 Small Scale Art Award and the AME Bale Art Prize.\n\nAbout the Exhibition\nBathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) presents ESSSENSSSE\, a joyful work about healing and new beginnings by acclaimed contemporary artist HOSSEI (NSW)\, guest curated by Tesha Malott.\nESSSENSSSE is an aquatic ecosystem that explores the tenacity of the human spirit\, stripping away corporeal human qualities and revealing what’s underneath. ESSSENSSSE follows HOSSEI’s exploration of creating costumes that ‘heal’. Featuring a cast of 16 other-worldly sea creatures\, ESSSENSSSE transitions from a series of dynamic and joyful performances into a sensory\, large-scale installation\, in which visitors are surrounded by a playful\, 100% tactile landscape.\nA Verge Gallery exhibition\, touring in partnership with Museums & Galleries of NSW\, supported by the University of Sydney and proudly funded by the NSW Government. Verge Gallery is supported by the University of Sydney Union.
