SUMMARY:Author Talk - Gina Chick
DESCRIPTION:A special fundraising event for the Bathurst Writers’ and Readers’ Festival. \nThe Bathurst Writers’ & Readers’ Festival Committee are pleased to be welcoming Gina Chick to Bathurst to talk about her best selling memoir We Are the Stars. \nGina will be in person at the library to talk about her writing and her book. She will be able to answer questions and sign copies of her book on the day. You can pick up a copy in advance from Books Plus\, or purchase a copy on the day. 10% of book sales from the event will be donated to the 2026 festival. \nGina Chick is a rewilding facilitator\, adventurer\, writer and speaker. \nWriting is in Gina Chick’s genes. Her grandmother\, Charmian Clift\, was an author\, essayist and Australia’s first female columnist in the early 60’s. Charmian married George Johnston (My Brother Jack) and they lived together on Hydra with Leonard Cohen and bohemian expats. Charmian’s teenage indiscretion\, an illegitimate daughter\, was given up for adoption. Gina’s mum\, Suzanne Chick\, who\, after finally discovering her mother’s identity at 48\, wrote her own book\, Searching For Charmian\, which was shortlisted for the NBC Banjo Award. \nGina was one of ten participants of the first series of Alone Australia\, made by iTV and screened on SBS in 2023. After 67 days of unforgettable moments of searing vulnerability\, Gina was the last person standing\, and the second woman to win an Alone solo challenge. \nHer determination\, passion\, and love of the natural world endeared her to more than 5.5 million people around Australia. Gina’s articles have been published in The Guardian\, news.com.au\, Mamamia and SBS online. Her first book\, We Are the Stars\, published by Summit Books at Simon & Schuster\, is a bestselling memoir of love\, connection and the glorious power of letting go.

SUMMARY:Exhibition Tours // ESSSENSSSE
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Tours // ESSSENSSSE \nJoin a FREE\, guided exhibition tour by BRAG staff on Saturdays at 11am!\nFree\, all welcome\, RSVP online or at gallery reception. \nBathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) presents ESSSENSSSE\, a joyful work about healing and new beginnings by acclaimed contemporary artist HOSSEI (NSW)\, guest curated by Tesha Malott. \nESSSENSSSE is an aquatic ecosystem that explores the tenacity of the human spirit\, stripping away corporeal human qualities and revealing what’s underneath. ESSSENSSSE follows HOSSEI’s exploration of creating costumes that ‘heal’. Featuring a cast of 16 other-worldly sea creatures\, ESSSENSSSE transitions from a series of dynamic and joyful performances into a sensory\, large-scale installation\, in which visitors are surrounded by a playful\, 100% tactile landscape. \nESSSENSSSE began when HOSSEI became fascinated by the sand dollar sea creatures— their shape\, features\, and how in mediaeval times it was truly believed that sand dollars were mermaid currency. When looking at the sand dollar\, HOSSEI realised that if you were to remove the physical characteristics of a human body\, you would be left with a mouth and an anus\, just like the sand dollar. It is this idea that compelled HOSSEI to make the sand dollar an emblem of the show. An entry point and an exit\, not just with food\, but in the sense of discerning which energies come through and nourish the insides\, and which are let out. ESSSENSSSE is about letting go and being one with the spirit and embracing its purity and vulnerability. \nA Verge Gallery exhibition\, touring in partnership with Museums & Galleries of NSW\, supported by the University of Sydney and proudly funded by the NSW Government. Verge Gallery is supported by the University of Sydney Union. \nImage: HOSSEI\, ESSSENSSSE\, 2023. Performer Lauren Booker. Dimensions variable. Photography by Jacquie Manning.
