SUMMARY:IL Barbiere Di Siviglia
DESCRIPTION:Rossini’s effervescent comedy\, The Barber of Seville\, retakes the stage in Bartlett Sher’s madcap production. \nExperience world-class performance from the Metropolitan Opera in New York\, plus get exclusive behind-the-scenes access. Filmed especially for cinema release\, this opera classic is sung in Italian with subtitles. \nThis perfectly honed treasure is widely considered the most popular comic opera of all time – a favourite of audiences of all ages\, including both newcomers to opera and lifelong fans. The score’s enduring melodies have left their mark on pop culture\, most famously Figaro’s Act I showstopper\, “Largo al factotum\,” and the iconic overture\, parodied by Bugs Bunny. \nThe Met’s “inventive” (The New York Times) production by Broadway’s Bartlett Sher emphasizes the slapstick nature of the opera\, with over-the-top physical comedy\, tons of props\, and explosive pyrotechnic effects. \nACT I: Rosina is being kept confined to her house in Seville by her elderly guardian\, Dr. Bartolo\, who plans to marry her. Count Almaviva\, disguised as a poor student named Lindoro\, attempts to win her love. Unsuccessful\, he enlists the help of the town barber and factotum\, Figaro\, to come up with a plan. \nThe Cast:\nMezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina headlines a winning ensemble as the feisty heroine\, Rosina\, alongside high-flying tenor Jack Swanson\, in his Met debut\, as her secret beloved\, Count Almaviva. Baritone Andrey Zhilikhovsky stars as Figaro\, the titular barber of Seville\, with bass-baritone Peter Kálmán as Dr. Bartolo and bass Alexander Vinogradov as Don Basilio rounding out the principal cast. Giacomo Sagripanti conducts. \nThis is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series\, bringing opera to venues across the globe.
