This charming little town 20-minutes south of Bathurst makes a nice stop on your way to Vale Creek Wines, or a family day trip to experience life as a local farmer at Barcoos. The village is also home to St Joseph's Convent and the local tradition of the Josephite sisters that dates back to 1872.

- Take the kids to get a glimpse of life as a local farmer at Barcoos Farmstays (1080 Trunkey Road, Perthville, 0429 337 439), which has been operated by the Hamer family for seven generations. There is loads of family fun action with animal feeding, pony rides, farm tours and tractor rides with Farmer Ken.
- The Bridge Hotel (8 Bridge Street, Perthville, 02 6337 2304) is a historic façade of sandstone walls and a tin roof which exude exceptional character. The bistro offers a great selection of traditional meals and popular dishes such as Sunday roast, pizza and pasta, all with live music weekly from local artists.
- A scenic 20-minute drive through the countryside will have you pulling up at Vale Creek Wines (438 Cow Flat Road, Georges Plains, 02 6337 2011) where you can explore the vineyard or go straight to the cellar doors to taste the delicious Italian varietals that owners Tony and Liz have mastered.
