Sandra Matiszik - Kalinya Self Contained Accommodation
This living museum is a must-visit. How extraordinary to think that one of the greatest Prime Ministers of Australia lived in such a humble way. This place is truly fascinating and a real eye-opener. If you don’t think history is your thing, this could change your mind.
Bathurst Farmer’s Market
These great markets are held on the 4th Saturday of the month in and around the historic and attractive pavilions at the Bathurst Showground. This is worth timing your visit to Bathurst for. Enjoy a bacon and egg roll and a really good cup of coffee before wandering and exploring the stalls selling fresh food and lovingly home-made treats then sampling some local wines.
The Winter Winery Wander
This is an annual event held in June. It is a fantastic way to savour Bathurst regional produce transformed by Bathurst’s best chefs, matched with local hand-made wines or beers. Visit four different venues and enjoy a course of delicious food matched with a specially selected wine at each. It's a great way to see the surrounding countryside too.
Top tip: Be prepared to get going early - this event kicks off at 9:30am.
Wine tasting at Vale Creek Winery
A short but scenic country drive from Bathurst leads you to Vale Creek Winery - they have a delightful selection of hand-made wines to taste, enjoy and take home. They specialise in Italian wines, so you can pick yourself up a bottle of something exotic like a Sangiovese, Dolcetto, Barbera, Vermentino or Moscato.
Top tip: Visit for a special event like jazz on a Sunday afternoon - check their website
This restaurant is ideally located overlooking the picturesque King’s Parade. For lunch or dinner, choose to sit out on the wide verandah of the the historic Royal Hotel (especially if it’s a balmy day or evening). The food is skilfully prepared, imaginative and delicious, local wines are highlighted, service is friendly. What more could you want?
