A Royally Romantic Weekend In Bathurst

Bathurst was a top contender to form part of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s itinerary when they head Down Under for the Invictus Games this October, though alas the Royal couple's itinerary this visit will take them to Dubbo instead. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex wouldn't have been the first Royals to visit Bathurst - Queen Elizabeth II visited back in 1954, and again with Prince Philip in 1982.

To show just what they are missing out on, we’ve pulled together a romantic itinerary fit for royalty. ♥♥

6pm – Dinner at Restaurant 9inety 2wo

Restaurant 9inety 2wo is set in a beautiful 1877 heritage building, once the Temperance Hall of Bathurst. Luckily, temperance is a thing of the past and you can enjoy a glass – or several – of fine local wine. The list here is overflowing with wines from Bathurst and the surrounding region. The Mod Oz menu includes highlights like lamb rump roast over wood chips with cumin roast eggplant, garlic and tahini, or order one of Meghan’s favourites, pasta, in this case hand-cut pasta, tossed with prawns, prosciutto and zucchini.

92 Bentinck Street, Bathurst

Overnight – Bishop’s Court Estate

Cocooned in beautiful parklands, Bishop’s Court Estate is an utterly charming boutique hotel that will make you feel like a King or Queen. Bishop's Court Estate prides itself on creating a personalised experience, tailored to individual wants and needs. Sleep in an oversized sleigh bed, wake up to sweeping views through floor to ceiling windows, laze away an afternoon in the library - the choice is entirely yours.

8am – Breakfast at The Hub

Start your royal day off with breakfast right in the heart of town at The Hub. This popular spot plates up iconic favourites with a twist such as the Benny Bagel, Brekkie Burrito and The Hub Big Breakfast all made from locally sourced produce.

12pm – Cruise Mount Panorama in a vintage car

Take some inspiration from Meghan and Harry, who departed their wedding ceremony in a vintage Jaguar, and hire a beautiful vintage car to take a spin around Mount Panorama. Pack a picnic to enjoy when you reach McPhillamy Park at the summit while you soak up the spectacular views of the Central West. You might even snap a pic of one of the mountain's resident grey kangaroos.

2pm – Enjoy a drop at Mount Panorama Estate

As you make your way back down the mountain, consider stopping in at Mount Panorama Estate, a picturesque vineyard in the heart of the racing circuit. Home to cool climate vines, you can visit their cellar door and try their range of Shiraz, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Semillon wines.

5pm – American style dining

If Meghan misses home she can get back to her American roots at Dogwood BX, a slice of Americana in Bathurst with food and drinks inspired by southern American flavours. Top contenders include buffalo wings with blue cheese dressing, Louisiana gumbo, smokehouse steaks and burgers. Let owner and top dog, Evan Stanley, whip up a classic cocktail or enjoy the rich bourbons and icy cold beers at the bar.
