Trunkey Creek
Gateway to the South.
A scenic 40 minute drive south-west of Bathurst rests the small picturesque village of Trunkey Creek in one of the earliest pastoral areas in the Bathurst region with some sections being surveyed and settled as early as the 1820s.
The discovery of large quartz reefs in the late 1860s led to a gold rush in and around the town, but it was wool that has provided a more enduring source of prosperity with some of Australia’s finest quality merino wool still produced here.
The town’s proud agricultural traditions are celebrated each year in October at the Annual Trunkey Creek Wool Festival and Horse Show.
Abercrombie Caves
Camp, walk and enjoy the scenery along the crystal waters of Grove Creek. Spot local wildlife like wallabies and platypus. Guided caves tours are available during NSW school holiday periods by appointment.
Black Stump Hotel
Calling in at the Black Stump Hotel is a must when visiting or passing through Trunkey Creek. Enjoy smoked American-style barbeque for lunch or dinner and a round of pool in the newly refurbished front bar.
Marvel at the Stars
Low light pollution makes Trunkey Creek a great spot for star gazers. In fact the area is host to the Grove Creek Observatory. The observatory is not open to the public but there are plenty of opportunities to stargaze in the region.
