Charles Durham - Bathurst Soaring Club

Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum
I love visiting this museum - it’s really fascinating. The collection is extensive, unique and interesting and they have a complete T-Rex dinosaur fossil that always is a big draw card for families with kids.

Top tip: Warren Somerville has spent a lifetime building one of the world's leading private collections of minerals and fossils. In 2000, Warren gifted part of his priceless life's work and legacy to the people of Australia and is now on the museum’s board.
The Bathurst Soaring Club
This one of the biggest gliding clubs in NSW and has been operating from its home base of Pipers Airfield, at 167 Freemantle Road, since 1974. The club is a great place to learn to fly, and they also offer trial glider flights and gift vouchers for glider flights. Members are very friendly and the club has a rich family orientated social atmosphere.

Church Bar
In my opinion this is the best place in town to eat out. Whenever I have visitors I always bring them here for a meal. The atmosphere is fantastic, especially in the warmer months when you can eat outside and enjoy a drink with friends.

Top tip: Church Bar is located in Ribbon Gang Lane - the notorious “Ribbon Gang” were the local bushrangers that terrorised the people of Bathurst during the 1830s.

Bathurst Farmer’s Market
These markets are held once a month at the showground and are a great place to get local produce. It’s the best way to find out what the region has to offer. If you ever want to know about local wineries, the best place to find out is also here at the farmers market. The local wine makers and brewers are always represented and keen to showcase their products. It is a must do for foodies.

Ok, so it’s not technically in Bathurst, but the village of Millthorpe is only a short drive away and has some good pubs and cafes for a day trip. The Millthorpe markets are well worth a look as well.

Top tip: Why not try a restaurant here? My favourite is Tonic.
