Bathurst is a healthy and active community and is well serviced by a range of high class facilities and venues.
Sporting and recreational pursuits are an essential element of the Bathurst lifestyle with the City and outlying villages offering recreation facilities and associated groups to suit everyone's sporting and recreation needs.
Bathurst has a state of the art, all year round, Aquatic Centre, an Indoor Sports Stadium, 18 hole Golf Course and a Hockey Complex which includes water and sand based fields as well as numerous grass fields.
Other sporting facilities include grounds for AFL, Athletics, Cricket, Netball, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Tennis, Football and Touch Football. Bathurst has over 70 different sporting groups and organisations in the region from Academy's of Dance, croquet, aero, pony clubs, through to the football, rugby, cricket and cycling. Bathurst is also home to the internationally renound Mount Panorama Motor Circuit. Mount Panorama has undergone some serious refurbishment to ensure the legacy of this icon lives on for generations to come. The spiritual home of Australian motorsport has been well and truly established through the staging of 46 consecutive Bathurst 1000 races (formerly 500). Due to the high standard of sporting facilities Bathurst has also hosted many major sporting events including the NSW Hockey Championships, NRL City versus Country league games, Basketball Age Championships, the NSW Junior Cricket Championships and the B2B - Premier NSW Road Cycling Race.
Bathurst Aquatic Centre is a community Aquatic centre, proudly operated by Belgravia Leisure on behalf of Bathurst Regional Council. The facility includes a 50m heated outdoor pool ideal for lap swimming and recreation during the warmer months. Located in the centre is a heated indoor 25m pool, Program Pool, Leisure Pool, Spa, Steam Room and Sauna facilities. Bathurst also caters for the cycling enthusiast with a growing network of designated bicycle tracks around the City. A brochure of cycling routes around the city is available from the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre. For the more serious rider the Bathurst Cycling Club is one of the oldest sports clubs in Australia founded in 1884. Members boast an impressive record on the worlds most elite stage, with a proud list of achievements at Olympics, Paralympic, World and National Championships and on the Professional Scene.
