Education is the third biggest employer in the Bathurst Region with over 55 providers delivering a quality learning experience for people of all ages.
There is a huge variety of public and private primary schools, close to residential areas, with well established and reliable school transport. These facilities continue into high school with two public and five private schools servicing the needs of students from not only Bathurst, but from around the state and overseas.
Charles Sturt University (CSU), one of Australia's leading regional universities, offeres unique and vibrant study experiences to the 2500 students on its Bathurst Campus. An excellent range of learning facilities are available including an industry standard media centre, exercise and sports science laboratory, television studios, new biochemistry and nursing laboratories and a dental and oral health clinic.
Bathurst's education facilities cater for children with special needs and support services are available from primary right through to high school. A highly regarded Conservatorium of Music and several dance and drama academies for young and the young-at-heart offer plenty of lifelong learning opportunities. TAFE NSW Western Institute, Central West Community College and the University of the Third Age offer diverse programs and flexible learning options as well.

Bathurst Regional Council supports the following children's services:-
- Scallywags Long Day Care Centre offering 46 places;
- Little Scallywags Long Day Care offering 20 places with first priority given to Council staff, remaining places offered to the families of the general community;
- Bathurst Family Day Care scheme offers flexible child care in a home based environment with carers supported and monitored by the Scheme's professional staff based at the family day care co-ordination unit;
- Bathurst Vacation Care program provides 38 places throughout State Government designated school holiday periods.
