Celebrate Solstice at Newbridge

Newbridge Historic Village Sat 23rd Jun 12 p.m. Ends: 11:59 p.m.

Blayney and Villages Winter Wonderland Festivities will commence with the celebration of the Winter Solstice in the street and on the Gladstone green in the historic village of Newbridge on June 23. Festivities and activities will commence at midday and continue until late. Featuring a medieval theme, the family friendly day promises a celebration of magic, fun food and music.
Now in its 5th year the festival has grown into a tradition that celebrates both the early nightfall of the shortest day of the year and the promised return of long sunny days. Solstice comes from Latin words sol meaning sun and sister meaning to stand still. The Solstice Festival is proudly sponsored by the Gladstone Hotel, Newbridge and Regis Resources.

Newbridge Progress representative Sally Angel states “This is a family friendly event with something for everyone including an English style street market Viking sword fight demonstrations as well as children’s swordfight activities,. There will be Morris Dancers in the streets and magic in the air with The Great Dane Magician. A community bonfire kicks off from 5pm on the Gladstone Green at the Newbridge Hotel for the burning of the wicker man. It is a tradition to throw a small wicker man into the fire to cleanse the energy and start anew as the days lengthen towards spring.” Bands The Orient Royal Mail and The Bootleggers will provide entertainment throughout the festival.

Visitors are invited to come dressed in medieval costume with prizes on offer for the best adult and child costumes. Ample parking is available at the Newbridge sportsground and there is a disabled drop off zone opposite the Olde Bridge Gallery
