Calling for Expressions of Interest
Funded training: Diploma of Building Surveying at OTEN
The Board has secured Strategic Skills Program (SSP) funding from NSW State Training Services for 20 people to undertake the Diploma of Building Surveying qualification through NSW TAFE Open Training Education Network (OTEN).
SSP offers training in the skills that are important to the NSW economy in priority industries and industries suffering skill shortages, and in skills that support innovative industry and jobs. Building surveying has been identified as an industry with a skills shortage.
The Board must ensure that the funding covers training of existing employees right across NSW in the building surveying discipline.
The Board is seeking expressions of interest through written applications from individuals, local councils and certification businesses to nominate themselves or an existing employee who would enrol in a Diploma of Building Surveying and commence training by June 2012.
Each nomination should be supported by a written explanation of how the funding for training would benefit the employee, the council or certification business and the local community.
All nominations and supporting documentation should be sent to bpb@bpb.nsw.gov.au by 5.00pm 5 April 2012.
Applicants will be shortlisted and may be subject to an interview process.
Successful applicants will be advised by 30th April, 2012.
The Diploma of Building Surveying comprises 24 units of competency. While it is anticipated that the qualification would take two years of self-paced part-time study to complete, there is no set time frame for completion. Those who enrol in the course are also able to accelerate their achievement and gain recognition of prior learning prior to commencing study.
The Diploma of Building Surveying enables a person to be accredited in Category A3 of the Board's Accreditation Scheme. While studying the Diploma, students may be able to apply for accreditation in Category A4 under the student pathway.
